One of the great and powerful things about the internet is our ability to grab and share the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) aka a link. Amazing. Period.

Think about it. In 2011, it’s one of those simple things that we have gotten use to from using the internet over the years but it is so darn powerful.  In college I became sort of an “internet tracker” – seeking the interesting and the cool going on in digital and culture and/or digital culture.

Lately I’ve been sharing the findings of these digital excursions on the ol’blog. Below are the latest collection of links on a wide variety of subjects. While the range of these subjects are broad, don’t be fooled.  They are in many ways interlinked and related when you peel back the onion.  Peel it back far enough to see the big picture.

The big picture in this case is the future of digital, business and culture.

I hope you enjoy!

1. Gareth Kay is put together a deck on THINK SMALL for big brands. I love it.   He borrowed Andy Spade’s quote from PSFK conference last year that is SO on point, “the bigger a brand gets, the smaller it should act.” So true. Review the deck here or see his postings on how to execute “small” thinking here.
2. Matt Howell of Arnold Worldwide did this awesome presentation for CU Boulder Digital Works on New Teams and Process for Making Digital work. Interesting.
3. Mobile commerce is so here and happening
. “EBay CEO says mobile sales will reach $4B by year-end.” That’s B for BILLION!
4. China is going to continue to BLOW the F up. “China’s taste for high-end fashion and luxury brands reaches new heights.”
5. Seth Godin. Love this man’s brilliance. Has a really short but really insightful posting on “what (people) want.”
6. For you Facebook marketers out there. Check out this friendly resource book on best marketing practices on the site.
7. Very interesting. TV Guide’s study “Which TV Shows Are the Most Social?” Guess what – the top 10 “most social” shows aren’t necessarily in line with the highest rated shows on Nielsen. Those Nielsen ratings be funny I tell you!
8. Amazon.com is a machine, huge, and pretty awesome. TechCrunch shares this terrific presentation on the hidden empire that is Amazon.com. For you tech-biz/MBA types this is a must read.
9. In case you wondered why you see some of your friends updates and not others, get an inside peak on Facebook’s EdgeRank algorithm.
9a. Facebook’s EdgeRank algorithm has a whole lot of relevance to the hot TedX topic of the week, Eli Praiser’s Filter Bubble. Apparently, Facebook/Google aren’t totally unbias when it comes to “searching/filtering” information. Hmmmmm, raise that eyebrow….now!
10. This collaborative consumption is really growing on me lately. For a crash course on it check out @BrainPicker’s “7 Ways to have more by owning less” posting.
10a. For a more in-length crash course on Collaborative Consumption – check out Danielle Sacks dope Fast Company article on Rachel Botsman, the ring leader of the movement.
11. HBO is making some really freaking smart moves lately, positioning the HBO brand for the long-term as the “go-to” source for premium entertainment. See their annoucment for the HBO Go app and now folks that have it on their iPads can watch the Game of Thrones show A WEEK early if they have the app! Pure brilliance. They showed us the future of the cable TV industry in the 80s so I guess it only makes sense that they show us the future of the fragmented-multi-screen entertainment universe in the 10s.
12. It looks like this NFC (Near-Field-Communication) and events go hand-in-hand. Check out “Google and China’s Foursquare-eaque Jiepang Prepping for NFC.
13. Did you know that Virtual Goods in social games will be a $653 million dollar business in the U.S. alone in 2011? What?! I know. Cray-cray (slang for crazy), but this is really happening.  Hmmmmm.  Makes one think about how you might go about doing a fancy integration into this wildly growing world.  Oh yeah, see: Lady Gaga.
